The properties of Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) are described as follows:

General performance

The appearance of CPVC is white powder, the specific gravity is 1.48~1.58, which is higher than that of PVC, and the molding shrinkage rate is 0.3~0.7%, which is easy to bond.

Thermal performance

The operating temperature of CPVC is 35~40℃ higher than that of PVC, and the maximum operating temperature can reach above 100~105℃. It is an ideal heat-resistant material. The thermal deformation temperature comparison of several similar resins is: CPVC>polybutadiene>ABS>HDPE>PVC>.

The thermal conductivity of CPVC is low, about 0.08~0.13W/(m.K), when it is used to transport hot water, it is not necessary to add a thermal insulation layer to the pipe, which saves investment; but it is not conducive to rapid heat dissipation when used in geothermal pipes.

The self-extinguishing flame retardancy of CPVC is better than that of PVC, and it has lower smoke.

Environmental performance

CPVC is not only resistant to ultraviolet rays and atmospheric aging, but also resistant to various acids and alkalis at room temperature. Even at 100 °C, it is still resistant to sodium hypochlorite solution, lactic acid, dilute lye and other media; CPVC can be dissolved in sulfamic acid, sodium chlorate, silicon Sodium, 25% potassium permanganate, more than 25% propylene glycol, phenol, formic acid, chromic acid, butyric acid, chloric acid, ammonium fluoride and other solvents. The order of corrosion resistance of several plastics is: CPVC≈PVC>HDPE>polybutadiene>ABS.

Adding phenolic antioxidants (such as 1010, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol, tert-butylcatechol, etc.) to CPVC can also greatly improve its weather resistance.

Mechanical properties

After PVC is chlorinated, the molecular polarity increases, which improves the mechanical properties of the material. Even at 100 °C, the tensile strength can still reach 50MPa, and the creep performance at 90 °C is still half higher than that of PP. At 100 °C After 50 years of use, the circumferential destructive force of the CPVC pipe is still 2.2MPa. The high mechanical strength of CPVC can fully meet the requirements of chemical production for equipment and pipes.
 

8. Cooling and Solidification Stage

The extruded product is quickly cooled and solidified by the cooling system to maintain its shape and dimensional stability. Cooling methods include water bath cooling, air cooling, etc.

 

9. Cutting and Post-processing Stage

 

After the cooling stage, the solidified plastic can be further processed, especially in plastic modification applications. At this stage, precision becomes critical. The solidified plastic goes through a cutting process, usually done by specialized equipment such as a granulator, to ensure that the resulting pieces or pellets are uniform in size. The choice of cutting into small pieces or pellets depends on the specific requirements of the application. The processed material is then collected and used in downstream manufacturing processes.
